デニムを「もの」としてではなく、人が一歩一歩前へ進む姿としてとらえた作品です。
そのフォルムには、DENHAM、デニム、代官山に共通する「D」が重ねられています。
デニムの周囲には、これまで、そしてこれからDENHAMを取り巻く、さまざまな人々の顔が広がります。
これからこの場所を訪れる人たちの存在も加わり、その風景はさらに厚みを増していきます。
履くことで育ち、時間とともに変化していくデニム。
藍で色づけしたマスキングテープも、時間とともに色や質感を変えていきます。
そうした変化もまた、この作品に流れる時間のひとつです。
本作では、これまでにない規模の作品を、あえて手描きで制作しています。
膨大な数の顔を一つひとつ鉛筆で描く、その時間もまた作品に刻まれています。
これまで積み重ねてきたものと、新たに生まれたもの。
その両方が、現在のシマダテツヤの表現としてこの作品に現れています。

This work presents denim not simply as an object, but as the figure of a person moving forward, step by step.
The form itself echoes the letter “D,” shared by DENHAM, Denim, and Daikanyama.
Around the denim are the faces of many people who have been, and will continue to be, connected to DENHAM.
As new visitors come to this place, their presence adds further depth to the scene.
Denim takes on character through wear, changing over time.
The masking tape, colored with indigo, likewise changes in color and texture over time.
These changes, too, are part of the passage of time within the work.
For this work, Shimada deliberately chose to work by hand on an unprecedented scale.
The time spent drawing an immense number of faces, one by one in pencil, is also inscribed in the work.
What Shimada has built over time and what has newly emerged come together in this work, expressing where Tetsuya Shimada is today.
